Mat Armstrong

Mat Armstrong is an influencer known for his YouTube and Instagram content rebuilding cars.

But what is the story behind his success and what is his net worth?

Who is Mat Armstrong?

Mat Armstrong was born on June 11, 1993 in Leicestershire, England.

While Armstrong is best known for his YouTube and Instagram channels on renovating cars, he never originally planned to become an influencer.

He attended Lutterworth College but quit school at the age of 16 in order to focus on his dreams of becoming a professional BMX rider.

While he loved what he was doing, the BMX circuit was tough for the teenager.

Making money was tough and he had to learn video editing skills in order to make films of himself to get into the BMX competitions.

He said of his days in BMX: “As much as I loved BMX-ing, it didn’t pay particularly well. In fact, most of the time sponsors would only just cover your travel cost.

“I didn’t come from a rich family, my parents split when I was young, so if I wanted to achieve anything in life, I was going to have to do it myself.”

He added: “I hated the idea of working a 9-5 job, so I needed to come up with an idea where I could carry on doing the things I love. But to do that I needed money to start with.”

Armstrong believed being properties, renovating them, and then remortgaging them for let was the best way he could make money in order to fund his biking.

It meant he worked a 9am to 5pm job Monday to Friday running the social media for a car repair shop, while also then working 6pm to 10pm seven days a week as a waiter at an Indian restaurant.

At the age of 21 he was able to buy his first property. He did it up, rented it out, and then started saving for a deposit to do the same on a second home.

Juggling his two jobs and doing up homes in Leicestershire, Armstrong then took on a fourth project: repairing the Audi TT written off by his girlfriend Hannah in a car crash.

“I bought the TT back from the insurance and decided to document the rebuild on YouTube. And oh did I have fun doing that,” he explained.

“I’m not a mechanic by trade or anything, it’s literally just something I’ve started from the driveway.”

The videos of him doing up the Audi were so successful on YouTube that Armstrong was even able to quit working at the Indian restaurant to focus on filming himself doing up more vehicles.

He was furloughed from the motor repair store he worked at during Covid and used the pandemic as the perfect opportunity to make the jump of quitting his job and working as a YouTuber full time.

Cars he has brought back to life have included a crash-damaged Bentley Continental GT and an abandoned Lamborghini murcielago.

He started getting sponsors for his videos and coverage in the national press. Famous motoring journalists such as Richard Hammond and James May even featured in on their own YouTube channels.

On top of sponsorship, Armstrong now makes money by raffling off the cars he renovates.

What is Mat Armstrong’s net worth?

Mat Armstrong is thought to have a net worth of $5 million.

His net worth comes not only from his YouTuber channel and Instagram, but also from his property empire.

Despite his success, Armstrong says the wealth he has made is not what motivated him.

He said in one of his videos: “The point is, this has never been about the money.

“This has been a journey about me doing whatever it takes to do what I love, day in, day out.”
