Spergo founder Trey Brown appeared on Shark tank in 2021

Trey Brown founded Spergo – a clothing brand based in the US – at just 12 years old.

But what is the story behind Spergo?

Who is Trey Brown?

Trey Brown was born in 2006 in Philadelphia, USA.

At 12 years old Brown spent $178 – which he got for his birthday – on 16 t-shirts which he bought and customized.

They sold out instantly and he made $280.

Brown went on to found Spergo in early 2018 with the help of his mother, Sherell Peterson.

Peterson was a retired seamstress and now serves as Spergo’s full-time Chief Operations Officer.

By the end of 2018, Brown had made $40,000.

After going from strength to strength in 2019, Brown reached out to Rapper P Diddy who mentored him and gave Spergo $25,000 in funding.

Brown used the money to open a physical store and the company went on to make a huge $745,000 in 2020.

Spergo then exploded in 2021 but Brown and his mother struggled to maintain the company’s trajectory so applied for Shark Tank.

The pair appeared on the show asking for $300,000 in return for 10 per cent equity.

Brown eventually agreed on a deal with the founder of the clothing brand FUBU Daymond John.

Brown secured the $300,000 but had to give up 20 per cent of his company.

Five days after the Shark Tank episode aired, Spergo had received more than 1000 online orders – a 2000 per cent increase.

The publicity led to Brown appearing on Ellen and then Fox Business.

NBA team the Philadelphia 76ers even gave him a $200,000 grant which helped Spergo expand their product line.

What is Trey Brown’s net worth?

Trey Brown has a net worth of $2 million.

In 2021, Spergo made $2.5 million in annual revenue – $375,000 of which was profit.
