Simon and Charlene Mitchell-Hood appeared on Dragons' Den in 2024

Simon and Charlene Mitchell-Hood are the founders of Sooper Books – the Netflix for children’s books.

But what is the story behind the couple who appeared on Dragons’ Den asking for £1 in return for 1 per cent equity in their business.

Who are Simon and Charlene Mitchell-Hood?

Simon and Charlene Mitchell-Hood founded Sooper Books in 2020.

Simon is a serial entrepreneur and has founded two other businesses including Owen Hood – a digital marketing agency – and Etalentpool – an online education brand that wants to bridge the gap between what science knows about optimal learning development and what people actually do in real life.

He left Etalentpool In 2019.

Prior to that, Simon had a successful corporate career where he worked his way up to Assistant Vice President.

In 2021, Charlene quit her job as an illustrator to go full time on the business.

The idea for Sooper Books came after the birth of Simon and Charlene Mitchell-Hood’s daughter Goldie.

Charlene and Simon founded Sooper Books “because we believe every child in this world deserves to discover the infinite joy of stories, whether reading or listening to them.

“Stories that help them see the world differently, burst open their imaginations and fire up a love of reading that lasts forever.”

Sooper Books is an online children’s book platform transforming the way parents and kids engage with reading.

They currently have more than 1 million people visiting their website every month.

Sooper Books is currently valued at £2.2 million.
